Today I ran at the Maidenhead Easter 10 on 18th April 2025. It was a really exciting race, and I was proud to take part. The race included children from Year 5 to Year 8, so I knew it would be a challenge as many of the boys were a lot bigger and older than me. Still, I was ready to give it my best and see how well I could do.
Right at the start of the race, I was in 2nd place. But not long after, two boys ran past me, and I dropped to 4th. I didn’t panic I stayed calm and focused. As we came around the first bend, I pushed harder and managed to move back into 2nd place. The boy in front of me was still about five seconds ahead, but I didn’t give up. I tried to keep a steady pace and not slow down.
I stayed in 2nd for the rest of the race. After the first lap, the positions stayed the same, and I just focused on running my own race. I made sure to keep strong and not waste energy too early. I felt tired, but I knew I had more to give. Near the end, I pushed as hard as I could for a strong finish.
The race was meant to be 1.61 km, but my watch showed the distance as 1.62 km. It wasn’t a big difference, but it still made me feel good knowing I ran slightly more and still finished strong. My pace was 3 minutes and 34 seconds per kilometre, which I was really proud of. That’s a very fast pace and shows how much I’ve improved.
I crossed the line in 2nd place, which felt amazing—especially against older boys. As a prize for finishing second, I was given a Frixion pencil case and a big Easter egg! That made my day even better. I felt proud, happy, and excited all at once.
It was a brilliant experience, and I learned that if I stay focused and keep trying, I can do really well even in tough races. I’m already looking forward to the next one and seeing if I can go one place better next time!
