Habs Dash March 2025

Today, at school, I took part in the Habs Dash. It’s a race we do that’s two full laps around the school grounds, and it’s supposed to be about 3.5 kilometres long. I was really looking forward to it because I had a brand-new pair of Nike Vaporfly 3 trainers. These are special running shoes with a carbon plate inside, and people say they help you run faster. I was excited to see if they would make a difference for me.

Lately, my times in the Habs Dash haven’t been as fast as usual because I’ve had a bit of a cough. I haven’t been feeling 100%, but I’m finally starting to get better. Even though I wasn’t fully back to normal, I was feeling strong and really wanted to do my best. I told myself I would push hard and see what I could do in these new trainers.

When the race started, I felt great. My legs felt light, and I was full of energy. I gave it everything I had, and I ended up finishing the run in 13 minutes and 17 seconds. That’s a new school record! I beat the old record by nine seconds, which made me feel really proud. My running watch said I ran 3.61 kilometres at a pace of 3 minutes and 40 seconds per kilometre. The weather was nice too—there was a bit of wind, but nothing that slowed me down.

I was the first to cross the finish line, and it felt amazing. This is my fastest time ever in the Habs Dash, and I couldn’t stop smiling afterwards. It felt good to run well again after being ill, and I think my new trainers really helped me go faster. But most of all, I think it was my determination that made the biggest difference.

Now, I’ve set myself a new goal. By the end of Year 5, I want to run the Habs Dash in under 13 minutes—somewhere in the 12s. That means I need to take off another 18 seconds from today’s time. It won’t be easy, but I believe I can do it if I keep working hard and training regularly.

I’m really proud of how I ran today. It felt good to be back to my best and even better to set a new record. I’m more motivated than ever now, and I can’t wait for the next Habs Dash to see if I can go even faster.
