Today I took part in the Battersea Run Festival, held on 24th November 2024. The race was supposed to be 3 kilometres long, but it ended up being just 2.75 kilometres. Right from the start, I felt ready to give it my all. At first, I was in second place, but I quickly managed to take the lead. It felt exciting to be out front so early on, but I soon realised there weren’t many signs along the route to guide us. Because of this, I spent some time looking back to check I was going the right way. I think I lost about fifteen seconds doing that.
Even with the confusion, I stayed ahead and managed to finish in first place. I crossed the line 1 minute and 12 seconds ahead of the runner in second place. It felt amazing to win by such a big margin. The weather made the run even better. It was 18 degrees today, which felt much more comfortable compared to the freezing 2 degrees I ran in yesterday. Running in warmer weather definitely helped me enjoy the race more.
My pace throughout the run was strong. I averaged 3 minutes and 50 seconds per kilometre, which I’m really happy with. Still, I think I could have been even faster if the route had been clearer and I hadn’t needed to keep looking back to check my direction. Knowing exactly where to go would have helped me focus fully on my speed and rhythm.
Despite the minor challenges, I really enjoyed the experience. The Battersea Run Festival had a great atmosphere, and it felt special to take part and come out on top. Winning the race made all the effort worth it, and I’ll definitely remember this day for a long time.
This race also taught me an important lesson. I realised how important it is to prepare for a race by studying the course map if I can. That way, I’ll know the route in advance and won’t have to waste any time figuring out where to go. It’s something I’ll keep in mind for future races to help me perform even better.
Overall, today was a fantastic day. Running at Battersea Park was a great experience, and winning the race made it even better. I’m already looking forward to my next challenge and hope to keep improving with each run.
